Giovanni Escamilla hasn’t even graduated from college yet, but you can already call him a millionaire! The 19-year-old student won the $1 million top prize playing our Scratchers®! Escamilla and his father stopped at a South Bay gas station to get something to drink and decided to buy some Scratchers while they were at it.
Escamilla, who admittedly doesn’t play the Lottery all that much, said he wasn’t sure if he had won, so he scanned the ticket with his cell phone using the new Check-A-Ticket feature on the California Lottery’s mobile app. He couldn’t believe it when it read, “You’re a winner! You have won $1,000,000”.
When we asked the lucky winner what he plans on doing with his winnings, Escamilla said at this point he really doesn’t know. He did tell us that he hopes to use his winnings to make even more cash! Smart move, Giovanni! The lucky ticket was purchased at the Cochrane Food Mart & Carwash, which is located at 851 Cochran Road in Morgan Hill (Santa Clara County). This business will receive a $5,000 retailer bonus from the California Lottery just for selling the winning ticket. (The retailer bonus is not subtracted from the winner’s jackpot prize.)
